This is one of the most geographically and culturally varied countries in South America, stretching from spectacular Iguazu Falls in the north to the jagged glaciers of Tierra del Fuego in the south. Discover the wide-open pampas covered with wonderful grass for cattle, which makes it ideal ranching country. Cosmopolitan Buenos Aires is one of the world’s most vibrant cities and arguably Latin America’s most beautiful capital city, where you can watch or learn to dance the seductive Argentine Tango.
The gourmet traveller will love the succulent homegrown beef washed down by great South American wines.
Horseback riding plays a major role in the history, economy and folklore of Argentina. The Argentine gaucho is as picturesque as the American cowboy, but while the classic cowboy of the American West maybe a dying breed, the traditional life of the gaucho in Argentina is very much alive and thriving.

Estancia Los Potreros

Estancia Los Potreros is set in a beautiful reserve at the top of the Cordoba hills in the centre of Argentina. This organic working farm, breeds Aberdeen-Angus cattle and Paso Peruano horses and has been in the same Anglo Argentine family for four generations offering the pleasures of estancia life with exceptional riding. The owners have a passion for conservation, and cherish the farms “spring water” and utilise wind and solar energy.
Home rides, long-distance pack trips, polo, assisting the gauchos with cattle or simply relaxing by the pool are some of the many activities. The riding terrain is exciting ranging from steep rocky paths down tree-studded gullies, to open, grassy hilltops. Los Potreros is a year round destination known for its fabulous horses. “The adventure allows you to experience the best traditions of Argentina while not abandoning all creature comforts.”
No visit to Argentina would be complete without the chance to try your hand at a game of polo. Informal polo is played once a week on the estancia (weather permitting) and is open for all guests to participate.
The estancia specialises in introducing this extremely fun and highly addictive sport to guests who have not had the chance to try it before. A short lesson on the ground and some practice ‘stick and ball’ is followed by a game, set at a pace to suit riding abilities. Throughout the year there are a number of fixed date polo weeks. These are aimed at the beginner, novice or occasional polo player who wish to combine this exciting game with some fabulous riding on the estancia.
For the less energetic, a ‘pool with a view’ provides a perfect place to relax, along with hammocks on the verandahs.
Accommodation on the farm is simple and very comfortable providing you with all creature comforts. All rooms are individual and tastefully furnished, and all have their own private bathroom. Meals are European in style, varied and delicious with plenty of excursions into local dishes, with the dishes supplemented by our own organically grown vegetables, fruit and free-range eggs. Their excellent chef can cater for a range of special dietary requirements. They have our ‘own label’ Argentine wines to accompany the meals, and various grape varieties make for interesting wine tasting.

Los Potreros Long Distance Ride
Ride across the Cordoba Hills from Estancia Los Potreros to visit neighbouring estancias. The pace varies from walk to gallop depending on the terrain. This week-long trek through wide-open country is a great adventure, which only happens 4 times each year, in April and October.
The point of this distance ride is diversity, you will experience the rich natural and human history of the area. Throughout this riding trip the accommodations vary from beautiful estancias and local cottages, to camping in very remote areas.
The pace of riding is dictated by the diverse terrain, though it is usual to ride at a walk to save the horses for long days in the saddle. There is the occasional canter and fast gallop, and at times you will be riding among herds of cattle. Request full itinerary, dates and prices.
