California,
known as the Golden State has so much to offer from it's beautiful and
diversified coastline with the cosmopolitan cities of Los Angeles and
San Francisco to its wonderful National Parks and Forests. The history
of the state is diverse but it really established itself on Jan. 24,
1848 when James W. Marshall discovered gold at Sutter's Mill, which
was the start of the California Gold Rush, and with this came a great
influx of settlers that have made California what it is today. |

COTTONWOOD
RANCH
WELLS - NEVADA |
|
|
?Cottonwood is a working horse and cattle ranch located at an elevation of 6,200 ft. in the remote northeastern corner of Nevada, which boasts the purest air and one of the least travelled wilderness areas in the lower 48 states. The Smith family own and live on the ranch, carrying on their daily and seasonal duties as they have for five generations, with the only difference being that now you can be included in everything they do. You’ll eat, saddle up, ride and take care of the ranch with the family, and - most exciting of all - you’ll learn the art of holistic ranching by experiencing it first hand, driving the herds over mountains or high deserts to different pastures almost daily to ensure the health of the precious eco-system.
Accommodation is in a lodge sleeping 16, all but one room with private facilities. The lodge has a spacious lounge area with a large stone fireplace for gatherings. Ranch style cooking and barbecues will fuel you up as you practice roping, arena games on horseback, horseshoes, target shooting, fishing, take hay and buggy rides or go hiking. But you’ll probably spend most of your time riding out on the range. Try the spring horse drive. Feel the excitement of riding the open range driving a thundering herd of horses through mountains and across rushing streams to their summer pastures. Eat delicious meals served up from the horse drawn chuck wagon. Enjoy evenings around the campfire and count the stars at night as you drift off to sleep in your own comfortable bedroll. You spend four exhilarating days on the horse drive and ride into ranch headquarters for two days of driving cattle to summer grazing. In September, you can join in the round-up of the herd then bring it down from the mountain amidst stunning autumn colours. Or experience cowboy life at its best as you ride out from mountain cow camps to check the cattle and calves, then relax round a glowing campfire with delicious meals served from a sturdy Dutch oven. |

COFFEE
CREEK RANCH
TRINITY CENTER - CALIFORNIA |
|
| ?Coffee Creek Ranch’s fascinating history starts with three claims staked in 1877 by Old Charley Henseley who lost them in a poker game in 1900 for $1! As rich in beauty as in history, the ranch lies along Coffee Creek, an excellent trout fishing stream, and covers 367 acres surrounded by national forest and the Trinity Alps Wilderness Area in Northern California. The ranch breeds its own American Quarter and Paint horses. Private lessons can be scheduled in addition to the usual two rides a day, grouped according to rider ability. Breakfast rides are the most popular but the most spectacular is the all-day “wilderness” ride, which can be extended into an overnight pack trip returning the next day. Coffee Creek claims to have every imaginable dude ranch amenity. You can try your hand at badminton, volleyball, basketball, horseshoes, table tennis, shuffleboard, rifle shooting, archery, hiking, mountain biking, gold panning and pedal boating. There’s bingo, square and line dancing, a talent show and the ranch’s own band The Rattlesnakes. There’s plenty of fishing (fly and bait) too, with stream fishing (native wild trout), river and pond fishing (stockers), lake fishing (bass, catfish, rainbow trout and kokanee) and wilderness fishing (brook trout). If all that hasn’t tired you out, you can swim in the heated pool, work out in the exercise room, or soak in the waterfall health spa under the stars. Summer is ideal for families, as they have supervised children’s programmes that are specially designed by age groups, but there are adult/singles weeks in the spring and autumn. The sixteen secluded cabins all have tall pines and ceiling fans to keep them cool and some have wood-burning stoves. In the large, modern kitchen professional chefs prepare nutritious meals planned with children’s tastes, hearty adult appetites and special needs (with advance notice) in mind. You can enjoy poolside barbecues, Mexican and Italian buffets and salad bar, or the weekly Steak Fry. |
