Oregon
cannot boast of any world-famous man-made monuments, but then it doesn't
need to: its array of stunning natural scenery is a matchless monument
to nature. It has 224 state parks and 13 national forests plus 400 miles
of coastline and countless lakes and rivers. Home to nine Native American
tribes, Oregon is proud of its pioneering history and especially the
2000 mile long Oregon trail bringing settlers to a new life in the West. Washington State is known as the Evergreen State, with natural wonders from the active volcano of Mount St Helens, the rainforests and Mount Rainier, to manmade structures like the Space Needle and the Grand Coulee Dam. Contrast all this with the vibrant city of Seattle the gateway to the islands, this legendary archipelago was a gift of the glaciers that covered Washington 15 thousand years ago and is a refuge for some of the world's most rare and regal species. |
