- CUT OFF CREEK/BIGHORN CAMP |
This wonderful wilderness experience, designed for the outdoor enthusiast is for the truly adventurous adult. You will either stay at the Cut Off Creek Rocky Mountain Camp or at the Bighorn Rocky Mountain Camp, dependent upon the schedule and weather conditions. Subject to suitable conditions you may even stay at both!
Expect between 4-7 hours in the saddle as you ride densely wooded mountain trails, wide-open mountain alpine valleys and to pristine Rocky Mountain Lakes. At certain times during the week, you may also be following the trails once travelled by the First Nations people and as you travel deeper into the Rocky Mountain Wilderness, will have to cross the Clearwater River many times.
Dependent upon the season, the location also often allows for a chance to see deer, elk, wolf, wild horses and even the occasional bear in their natural surroundings. Whilst following the wildlife trails between the delicate mountain flora and fauna, riders will experience this true wilderness area first hand.
The adventure includes six nights at camp with primitive accommodations in comfortable tents with sleeping bags, beds, lanterns, wood burning stoves and a separate shower tent.

| BRITISH COLUMBIA - CHILCOTIN RANCH PACK TRIP |
The ultimate wilderness adventure. For four or seven days, you will explore the back country, from mountain to wild hay meadow, through valleys carpeted with wild flowers and passes once roamed by Indians and prospectors. There is usually time built into days of nomadic wandering along old game trails, across rivers and glaciers, to fish for rainbow trout and try panning for a glint of gold. Cayuse mountain horses are a mixture of breeds developed to travel sure-footed in this terrain and are matched to riders, on trips planned according to rider's ability and experience. On the four-day trips, the first and last nights are spent at the ranch with one night at camp; on the seven-day trips the first and last nights are spent at the ranch with the rest of the time in camp. Appetites are satisfied by generous helpings of traditional western fare and unlimited fruit and vegetables, all the better for being enjoyed in this great outdoors. The 3 Day Mystic Valley Pack trip is perfect for people who don't have a lot of time, but would still like to enjoy a taste of the back country and turn three days into a memorable mountain experience.
Mystic Valley Camp is located 10 miles north of Mt. Norquay, situated on the banks of Forty Mile Creek. After a picnic style lunch prepared by your guide, the ride will continue on to Mystic Valley Camp where you will be greeted by the cook and shown around. In camp, guests can relax in the kitchen tent, take a short hike, or try their luck at fishing in the creek.

When the riders return from the pass, everyone will gather for a hearty western meal and after dinner, spend the evening gathered around a cozy campfire or the warmth of the wood stove in the cook tent.

| ALBERTA - BANFF WILDERNESS PACK TRIPS |
These trips explore some of Banff National Park's most spectacular back country. Join us on a 3, 4, or 5 day Wilderness Tenting Ride in the Cascade Valley.
Each of the 3 camps on the circuit offer their own particular charms. Stoney Creek Camp sits at the junction of Stoney Creek and the Cascade River, and offers the rugged, sculptured peaks of the Palliser Range as a backdrop. Flints Park Camp is nestled into the base of massive Flints Peak. Open vistas and starry nights highlight this beautiful camp. The last camp is aptly called Mystic Valley, with its stands of big, old pine and spruce trees covered with hanging moss, and open, grassy slides; this camp is set in a truly mystical location.
All the camps are of a similar set up. Simple luxuries abound: wash stands and hot water, a fire pit for evening socializing, tales and song, a large kitchen tent where meals are cooked and served, plenty of "A" frame canvas tents which make for cozy accommodations, and rustic rail corrals for the horses. Rivers flow nearby for the fishermen or brave swimmers.
The clanging of the dinner bell calls all to delicious ranch-style meals. Coffee is always on and kept hot on the wood stove. The horses, chosen especially to meet your needs and experience, will win you over with their charming personalities and amaze you with their abilities. A strong "partnership" is usually formed by ride's end. During your ride, trails may lead to the tranquil beauty of Rainbow, Sawback or Cuthead Lakes; to the overwhelming views of 40 Mile Summit, Cuthead View Point, or the Rainbow Ridge; the open valleys on the Passes of Elk Lake or 40 Mile Summit, the beauty of the Dormer and Block Valleys or the eerie atmosphere of Mystic Valley. The rides are casual, with breaks and leisurely lunches.
For many, September is the most beautiful time to ride in the Rockies, days are pleasantly cool, ideal for riding and are designated as Adult only rides.

| ALBERTA - BANFF BACK ROADS COUNTRY LODGE RIDES |
Ideal for those who are looking to take a little bit of home into the back country, Sundance and Halfway Lodges provide just the right combination. Like the Wilderness Packtrip rides, days are spent horseback riding and exploring. Unlike the Packtrip rides, evenings are spent in a cosy lodge. We call that roughing it the civilized way!
Sundance Lodge sits alongside a gentle curve on Brewster Creek, with the Sundance mountain range as a backdrop. Built entirely with fir logs, the lodge has 10 sleeping rooms, a large country kitchen, and a cosy living room area where you can curl up by the woodstove and lose yourself in a good book. And although it is a remote backcountry lodge, we decided to add what we felt was an important comfort from home - hot showers! (Please note that, for environmental reasons, showers are restricted to one per stay.)
Surrounded by the beauty of towering peaks, Halfway Lodge has been a welcome haven for over 80 years. Then a single storied cabin, Strom's wranglers spent the night sleeping in tents while the guests found floor space within. Halfway has remained pretty much as originally built, with the exception of a second story added in 1967 when a bear made an appearance through an unexpected entrance - the roof!
The lifestyle at this rustic backcountry cabin remains much the same as it was 80 years ago - simple. Propane lanterns and candles provide the lighting, and a woodstove keeps the water hot and the cabin warm and cosy.
Note: At Sundance Lodge, private sleeping arrangements are possible depending upon trip size, but are not guaranteed. Sundance has 10 sleeping rooms with 3 beds in each room, rooms are designated on a choose your own basis once at the lodges. Halfway is equipped with single beds only and sleeps 14 guests in 4 rooms.
