Island Guest Ranch consists of over 5000 acres in Northwest Oklahoma, located on an actual island in the Cimarron River. The ranch is run by Carl L. White and his family. They are a 4th generation ranching family spanning more than a hundred years of Oklahoma history and they pride themselves on offering a true working ranch experience.
The riding is very varied and you can help with the day to day activities of feeding animals, checking cattle, gathering and driving the cattle to new pastures and checking fence lines. At certain times of the year you may help with branding, ear tagging, and even doctoring of the mainly Braford cross and longhorn cattle.Other activities available are, team penning, fishing, swimming in the pool, trap shooting, hiking or even get a lesson in roping! In the evenings, you might enjoy square dancing, a visit to a local rodeo, or an Indian Pow wow.
Another attraction of this ranch is the abundant wildlife that graces the landscape, such as deer, turkey, coyotes, squirrels, rabbits, raccoons and armadillos. Birds such as water fowl, cranes, roadrunners, quail, woodpeckers and swallows join the scissor tail flycatcher and numerous other song birds that are native to the island.Accommodations are in 10 spacious cabins all with private facilities, for large groups they can offer a bunk house with shared facilities.
The main lodge is very impressive and is where your meals are served and where you gather in the evenings to tell tales of your day. The meals are served family style and are good wholesome ranch fare. There is no liquor licence but guests may bring there own.
