The Gyp Hills Guest Ranch overlooks the scenic Gypsum Hills southwest of Medicine Lodge. Home to the Red Rock Cattle Company and Lonker Ranch, at this working cattle ranch they raise both purebred Hereford and Red Angus as well as commercial cattle. An authentic working ranch, the property has been in the same family for over 100 years, with three generations still involved in the running of the ranch today.Opportunities abound to escape to the peace and tranquillity of the beautiful Gypsum Hills where you can ride in scenic countryside, get involved in real cattle work or maybe enjoy a cattle drive.
The rides are not nose-to-tail and are usually with a purpose, checking and gathering cattle etc. When not working the cattle, you can roam across the same stunning landscape on foot, this historic location where five Indian tribes (Apache, Arapaho, Cheyenne, Comanche and Kiowa) signed the Medicine Lodge Peace Treaty of 1867 - the treaty intended to bring peace to the area by relocating the American Indians to determined Indian territory and away from European-American settlements. When not in the saddle, hike through the hills and pastures surrounding the ranch, cast a line at the pond or just sit back and relax on the porch.
The ranch offers seven rustic western-style accommodations, in either the bunk house or the main lodge. All but one have en-suite bathrooms. Overlooking the cattle pens and close to the working barn, the bunk house rooms are ideally located for visitors travelling alone or with a companion. For families and bigger parties, the ranch house's two floors can accommodate parties of up to four and six guests respectively, each with their own separate entrance.
You will not go hungry at this ranch as hearty western fayre and home cooked meals are always on the menu, and there are regular cookouts, and barbecues. The ranch does not have an alcohol licence but guests can bring their own.
