Experience a stay at a real longhorn cattle ranch, just 45 minutes southwest of the historic Dodge City.
The wide-open prairies, rolling hills, trees, creeks and rocky hillsides make up this beautiful country – home to the Moore family and their authentic working ranch.
Typically having around 300 plus cattle and 50 horses, guests will be able to participate in all aspects of their working day including receiving cattle year round, working, driving and herding them, feeding, doctoring and general riding to monitor the pasture and wildlife. There is also usually the chance to do some team penning and barrel racing or maybe observe or work the young horses as they are put through their paces. The riding is open riding and certainly not nose to tail, but the ranch is able to cater for all levels of ability.
Other than riding, guests may wish to try their hand at target shooting, roping dummy steers or enjoy wading in the creek. You will often also have the option of a trip to a local rodeo, if one is in the area at the time of your visit.
Accommodations are clean and basic and there are various options, to suit couples, groups or singles – all with private facilities, heating and air conditioning. There are no TV’s, Internet connection or phones in the cabins and after adjusting to this, guests enjoy the peacefulness, and often with the only noise at night being an occasional coyote.
Meals are hearty, home cooked and eaten with the family and always made from scratch, often with produce from the ranch.
